How Pick-to-Light Works

Going paperless in the workplace obviously benefits the environment, but businesses are discovering that alternatives to paper pick-lists save valuable time and money, as well.

The Pick-to-Light system streamlines warehouse operations while minimizing errors and improving the accuracy of sales monitoring and inventory reporting. It also significantly reduces the training required for warehouse employees.

Pick-to-Light processes utilize light-up displays on product bins and shelves, aligning with the product type and quantity required for a picker to fulfill an order or re-stock merchandise. When the picker removes the correct amount of the specified product from the batch, the light is extinguished. Then the picker moves on to the next product on the order, indicated by a light-up display.

The system also minimizes the incidence of user error, since the only products required to fill the order are those whose type and quantity are indicated by the illuminated displays.

Why Pick-to-Light Works

Supervisors report the Pick-to-Light system offers a better use of their employees’ time. Orders are  filled quickly and successfully, even when the warehouse staff includes temporary workers, or involves a diverse team that may experience language barriers in a paper system.

Pick-to-Light technology is easy to install, and because of its intuitive nature, training is minimal. As a result, warehouses experience little to no interruption in their output.
